Fifty years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, African Americans have made great strides and contributions to American society.As we observe Black History Month,take part in events planned throughout February that celebrate the past and present contributions of African Americans to our society.

Help restore environmentally sensitive lands in February
Volunteer to clean up some of Miami-Dade’s environmentally endangered lands on Feb. 7 at the Hattie Bauer Hammock Preserve and on Feb. 8 at the Crandon Preserve. Community service hours are available.


Mayor’s State of the County Address taking place Feb. 26
Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez’s State of the County Address will take place at 10 a.m. on Feb. 26 at the Milander Center for Arts and Entertainment in Hialeah. The address will also air on Miami-Dade TV and via online webcast.


Learn to keep your mangos away from pests at Feb. 11 workshop
Commercial growers and backyard owners of mango trees are welcome to attend the Mango Pests Workshop on Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at the UF/IFAS Miami-Dade County Extension Office in Homestead.


Business Development Mission to South Korea in May
Miami-Dade County, in conjunction with Enterprise Florida, Inc., is sponsoring a Business Development Mission to Seoul and Busan, South Korea, from May 10-17.
